Studi 1: Peran Kepala Sekolah

Kep-Sek membantu Siswa Belajar

Orang Tua Siswa membantu Guru

Generally, optimism is linked to higher achievement. However, amongst those undertaking legal studies, optimism is linked to lower grades and pessimism to higher grades (ie just the opposite). Pessimists have an underlying attitude that their experiences will usually (or always) be negative and they also believe failures are their own fault. Unfortunately, pessimistic thinking is linked to depression.

That is, the more pessimistic someone is, the more likely they are to suffer from depression. Depressed people are actually much better judges of reality. For instance they are better at judging when something they are doing is useless. So the more realistic someone is, the more likely he or she is to become depressed!

Pessimism is also bad for health. Pessimism makes people more liable to die of heart disease once they have it as well as more likely to get cancer in the first place. Indeed, among a sample of lawyers optimism was the best predictor of general well-being, even better than hardiness (emotional resilience). A study of law students found that those high in optimism at time 1 had more active immune systems at time 2 and that this was partly due to their having more positive moods, perceiving less stress and not using avoidance methods of coping.

In a study of male Harvard undergraduates that started in the 1940s, high amounts of optimism at age twenty predicted good health at sixty-five. Meanwhile, those who were highly pessimistic at twenty often had left no forwarding address by the time those questionnaires rolled around at age sixty-five.

Optimism (generally) appears to have a strong beneficial effect on physical and mental health. Optimists are positive thinkers. There are several ways of "thinking positively". One is having thoughts with a positive content and attributing good and not bad events to self, which happy people tend to do. Another is having a good sense of humor, which enables people to "see the funny side of things", having an ironic view of life, which makes bad things seem good.

Most people have a positive view of the world, but some have a more positive view than others. Most people believe they have far more control and more skills than they actually do have. For instance, the majority of drivers consider themselves more skilful than the average driver. Over 95% of new college/university students believed they would graduate whereas the actual failure rate is about 25%. Most people believe they have far more control over their lives than is actually the case.

Many lawyers will immediately label this way of thinking "self-delusional". Yes indeed, but the most recent research points to the benefits of self-delusion! This self-delusion has been found to be healthy, resulting in more success, better health and longer life than those who are actually realistic! (On the other hand, yes it can lead to rash experimentation which may be one of the reasons the majority of lawyers tend towards the pessimistic point of view.)

Pessimism is connected with a belief that an event is beyond control. Perceptions of helplessness and poor coping were also associated with the inability to attribute any real meaning or purpose to the conflict or problem situations. Such a perception is associated with a high distress factor, a predisposition to depression, and a wide diversity of health risks. It is also linked to low self esteem and poor self confidence.

In a study by the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, the medical histories of 839 people were tracked over 30 years. They had all completed a standard personality test between 1962 and 1965, measuring their optimism. There were 124 optimists, 197 pessimists and 518 in between. Their death rates were compared and every 10-point increase in pessimism was associated with a 19 per cent increase in death rate. Similar studies have been done more recently on the role of optimism in high-risk pregnancies, speeding recovery from heart by-pass surgery, and as part of the treatment for teenagers who take drugs. In all these studies pessimists tended to do markedly worse.

Scientists have proved that we can change our brain responses by conscious effort. We can actually condition ourselves to trigger a particular chemical pattern in our brains so that we can change our attitudes and our thinking in positive ways. Thus, even if you have a habit of focusing on the negative, with practice you can change that habit.

Taking control of how you respond to your thoughts and what thoughts you focus on can make all the difference between happiness and unhappiness. An excellent first step is simply to acknowledge the negative feelings respectfully – they are not the cause of your feeling bad but rather signposts to your negative thinking. Then focus your energies on a substitute. Optimists, you see, use their imagination to rehearse success.

Indeed it has been discovered that the most successful individuals from all walks of life do this routinely. Not only do optimists imagine a rosy future, they remember their successes much better than they recall their failures. They dwell on the pleasant. They skip over, although they don’t ignore, their shortcomings.

This called "positive illusion". You see it in world-class competition of all kinds, for instance. The world champion goes into competition believing he or she will succeed. Top ice skaters, skiers, gymnasts, divers, and other performers imagine themselves completing their programs flawlessly. They are all optimists. As well as working very hard to achieve their peak form, they anticipate success. They don’t hope for it; they expect it.

The power of positive illusion occurs in the worlds of commerce, politics, and art as well. Research on the process by which people become effective and inspiring leaders uncovered one trait all great leaders possess.  This "unwarranted optimism" is the ability to see a positive future even in the face of contradictory evidence and appears to be a strong component of top leaders.

Optimists believe that any difficulties or setbacks are temporary, specific to just that experience, and not their own fault. They believe they are in control of their lives. The happiest people believe this whether or not it is true. In other words, the most effective way to increase your happiness is to ‘act as if’ you are in control. Researchers found that those who believe that they are in charge of their destiny are happier, healthier and more productive than any other group of people.

Yet their lives are not really any different from those who do not feel in control. Even for those working in the same kinds of jobs, the ones who saw it as a positive experience and felt in control of their lives had 28% more life satisfaction, according to one study. In fact, in the late 1980s researchers at UCLA found that those who score high on "mental health" actually have more illusions than others! Some of the most common illusions of the mentally healthy are:

* overly positive views of themselves

* convenient ‘forgetting’ of negative facts about themselves

* ‘unrealistic’ optimism about themselves

* ‘unrealistic’ optimism about the future in general

* ‘abnormal’ cheerfulness

It seems that the pollyannas of this world have better health and certainly have more happiness. So do you want to have those kinds of ‘illusions’ or would you rather stick to hard realism and die sooner than the deluded fools?

There’s more. Optimists are more successful in all areas of life. Recent studies show that optimists excel in school, have a better love life, make more money, and have better health as well as living longer! Optimists also do better in the face of stress. They take action sooner; break big problems into smaller, more manageable ones; stick to their goals longer; and believe others can help. All this - and they are happier too!

Surely there is a down side to optimism? Well, not really. The only likely harm of optimistic thinking is when we use over-optimism to shield ourselves from reality. Optimists tend to overestimate the likelihood of success so unrelenting optimism is not a perfect solution. Therefore it is better to be pessimistic in the planning stages but optimistic at most other times.

Remember that, even though optimists bite off more than they can chew (so that they can end up with broken dreams and unrealistic desires), they still end up healthier and happier than pessimists! So which perspective is correct? The answer is neither. You can make a case for each side.

What’s really important is not which way of thinking is correct but which is most beneficial. Having an unrealistically positive view of ourselves seems to be directly linked to greater success. So, you get to choose…..

For Indonesian people, learning English is compulsory. But, how do English speaking people think if they are to learn other languages?

Native English-speakers are increasingly exhorted to learn foreign languages to play a more effective role in globalisation. However, we tend not to learn foreign languages for three very valid reasons.

1.   Many other peoples in the world are not just exhorted to learn English, they are required to do so. Thus, you can find English virtually everywhere you go.

2.   The grammar of most other languages, certainly most European languages, is much more complex than English. Thus, native anglophones often view language learning as a daunting, and even demoralising task.

3.   Most native anglophones, especially in North America, live in almost exclusively English-speaking environments. We virtually never hear other languages spoken live, on radio or television, and virtually never see them written in newspapers, magazines, books, etc. This is hardly motivating.

The fact is, the world conspires against anglophones learning other languages. So if you speak only English, you have no reason to be ashamed.

Saya merasa lega sebab berhasil.

http://www.ehow.com/how_2059778_be-freelance-journalist.html?ref=fuel&utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=ssp&utm_campaign=yssp_art

Step1
Know your motivation. If you're just itching to see your byline, then maybe it's time to reevaluate your career goals. Writing is hard work that requires hours at your desk, the patience to get a piece finished and a thick skin to handle rejection.

Step2
Educate yourself in your craft and the business. Becoming a freelance journalist will require time spent reading the type of news or features that you want to write, in addition to articles and books on how to be a freelance journalist. Study the content and the writing style of what's being published; that's the material writers are successfully selling.

Step3
Write what you don't know as well as what you know. Choosing your topics to pitch to a magazine or newspaper is perhaps the most important step in the process. If you can't get your idea sold, the piece can't appear in print. Make sure the topic is relevant to the market you're pitching.

Step4
Familiarize yourself with your target publication. Whether it's a newspaper, magazine or trade journal, read several issues of the publication to become knowledgeable about the topics they have already covered, the types of articles they buy and their style. Visit the library to read back issues, request sample copies or peruse the online version.

Step5
Realize that your writing is a product and you are in a business. Fooling yourself into thinking your writing is solely "art" or the process is just a "craft" will limit your ability to step away from the piece and sell it. Freelance journalists who are successful and sell a lot of articles learn the ins and outs of the business.

Step6
Set your sights on the smaller publications at the beginning of your career. Your goal at this point is to build up a reputable clip file, and that means getting published. If you're unknown, the larger or national publications will most likely pass on your work, but once you start collecting your bylines in smaller publications, you have those to show editors.

Step7
Accept rejection. The hardest part of the job for freelance journalists is getting that rejection letter, phone call or email. Don't take it personally; consider it a success that you even got your work out there in the first place. Rejection is part of the acceptance process, and you'll need to learn how to deal with the possibility of facing it over and over again.

Istilah paling umum sebenarnya sering kita dengar--"Capek Deh!"

Plagiarism is a crime that anyone in the writing profession should avoid.

Copying work of others and making it appear that you are the one who wrote is strictly prohibited in any profession especially in the field of writing.

If this act of copying the work of others is a crime among professionals, the same thing holds true among students especially if that person is studying in a writing course or any other course in that matter.

Plagiarism will definitely hurt any student and will put his reputation and standing as student in jeopardy.

One ill effects of plagiarism among students is tarnished reputation, once the school community realizes that you committed plagiarism they would think of you in the negative and will doubt your skill in writing.

Another negative impact of plagiarism among students is the loss of confidence in writing, by taking short cuts in the writing process; the student did not allow him or herself the opportunity to learn how to write.

With his failure to learn the skills in writing, there is big chances that the student will again plagiarize in the future could further dampen his or her chances of success.

Aside from the students, the teachers and parents of these people would also be hurt if ever they commit plagiarism.

The teacher of a student who will commit plagiarism will feel like that the student is disrespecting his or her status and mentor when he or she decided to plagiarize the work of others thinking that such actions will not be caught.

The parents of students who will plagiarize will also be hurt since it would be hard to think that their very own child whom they constantly reminded to be honest commit cheating by plagiarizing the work of other people.

The reputation of the parents from the eyes of other people will also be badly affected if ever their own flesh and blood commit the crime of plagiarism.

With the negative things, it offers students should do their best to avoid it even if the temptation of getting good grades is high, since there is a strong tendency it can ruin their future if they continually commit this illegal activity.

Anyone involved in online marketing is always looking for ways to improve upon their copy writing skills. The ability to use the written word thereby influencing the reader to take certain desired actions is an invaluable skill.
It all starts with knowing what your readers really want and how to present it to them without making them feel uncomfortable or pressured.

Here are 6 tips to help increase the effectiveness of your copy writing skills.

1) Product Knowledge

Possessing first hand knowledge of whatever it is you're promoting is a must. You need to know your product and its capabilities as to whether it can produce or accomplish what it advertises it can. Knowing this gives you the passion and confidence you need to endorse the product. With knowing the product you are endorsing is legitimate and effective the task of copywriting becomes much easier. The enthusiasm you genuinely feel will be conveyed thru the copy you compose and readers will pick up on this.

2) Know Your Target Audience

Obviously any product you may promote is not suitable for all customer types.

Determining the product benefits along with the needs and wants it may fill will help you better identify the customer type you need to target.

Knowing your customer now makes it easier to decide what type language or slang would be best suited to communicate your message to them. For instance if your customer type is well read or scholarly delving deeper into your vocabulary to speak to them would seem more appropriate. If however you're targeting the younger generation the use of slang would be more applicable in this instance.

What you're doing is just trying to relate better to your customer by addressing them more within their comfort zones.

3) Emphasize Benefits.

To capture anybody's attention you'll always want to answer the unasked question they have which is 'what's in it for me' or they'll likely lose interest.

Be sure to address product benefits quickly within the body of your copy or readers will just as quickly leave your site!

Would you buy anything that didn't benefit you in some way? Of course not! Showing readers thru examples of how your product would make their lives better, easier, more profitable, healthier, enjoyable, etc. The idea here is that readers will then start to 'realize' how they can't live without these benefits.

4) Develop Sense of Urgency

You want the reader to take some sort of action while on your site. By offering a 'time limited or quantity limited' bonus for their order you've now lit a bit of a fire under them to make a decision.

This aspect of your copy is important from the standpoint that once a reader leaves your site there're gone so do your best to entice them to order. If nothing more offer them a free 'thank you' gift just for visiting your site so you can capture their contact info for future online marketing efforts.

5) Be Brief

When ever possible say more with fewer words. People are always in a hurry so get to the point but cover all the important bases.

6) Proofread Your Work

Check your work for spelling, formatting, or grammatical errors you likely missed during your initial composition.

Using these 6 tips as a guide should help you improve upon or maintain your current copy writing skills for any online marketing endeavor.

Ada peribahasa dalam bahasa Inggris: If you are happy every one will be happy with you. But if you are sad, you will mourn all by yeourself.

When you are interested to apply for a job in a particular company, for sure you will be asked questions in the interview. Before you get nervous in the spot, why don't you train yourself now? "Confuse yourself with 10 questions?" is my way to let you know 10 confusing questions in the interview. Daniel Scocco has compiled the ten questions from a source he read. I think the questions will be important for all job-seekers. They are as follows:
  1. What interests you about our company?
  2. Have you ever brought a lawsuit against an employer?
  3. Why did you take the pen from me?
  4. Can you work under pressure?
  5. If you were a ‘Lost’ character, which one would you be?
  6. How do you define sexual harrassment?
  7. What is the airspeed of an unladen swallow?
  8. Do you ever abuse alcohol or drugs?
  9. What is your biggest weakness?
  10. Where do you see yourself in five years?
